These “imagined” mineral specimen earrings were inspired by rocks I collected as a child, and specimens such as at The Natural History Museum. I have created a new, completely unique gemstone that takes crystal shapes (such as garnets) and rock textures (such as schist), and morphed them into a new, fun and almost celestial jewel.
The "mineral specimens" were hand formed from a flat sheet of niobium into these shapes using the technique "chasing and repoussé". It was then anodised to these using electricity to create the iridescent colours.
The colouring pushes the boundaries of reality on earth into something otherworldly.
Materials: Niobium, sterling silver.
Hallmarked at the Edinburgh Assay Office 2022.
