Crystal Explosion Vessel

Crystal Explosion Vessel is a sculptural silver and niobium vase that reimagines a traditional vessel as a moment of geological rupture and emergence.

Raised in silver, the form is disrupted by an eruptive surface that appears to fracture open, revealing an internal crystalline structure. At its centre sits a claw-set, purple anodised niobium element, evoking an amethyst geode embedded within rock. This focal point is surrounded by a hand-chased, cratered surface that mimics natural mineral formations and the raw textures of fractured stone.

The piece explores tension between containment and eruption — a controlled vessel form disrupted by organic, seemingly spontaneous growth. The anodised niobium introduces shifting violet tones that respond to light, enhancing the illusion of a living, crystalline interior.

Balancing function and sculpture, the vessel invites close inspection while challenging expectations of symmetry, refinement, and permanence in traditional silversmithing.
